TNPSC Group 2 2026 Eligibility

Candidates must satisfy the prescribed age, educational, technical, physical and other eligibility conditions for the post they are applying for.

The educational or technical qualification prescribed for the relevant post must be possessed on the date of notification, i.e. 11 August 2026.

TNPSC Group 2 Age Limit 2026

The age limit is calculated as on 01.07.2026.

The age limit varies according to the post and community category.

For many Group II and Group IIA posts, candidates belonging to SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC(OBCM) and BCM categories are eligible under the applicable no maximum age limit provision, subject to the conditions specified in the notification.

For the category referred to as Others, many Group IIA posts have a maximum age limit of 32 years.

The Executive Officer, Grade III post has a separate age condition, including a maximum age limit of 37 years for Others.

The educational qualification differs from one post to another.

Most Group II posts require a degree from a University recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

However, some posts require specific degrees or additional technical qualifications.

A large number of Group IIA posts require a degree from a UGC-recognised university.

TNPSC Group 2 Selection Process 2026

The selection process consists of the following stages:

  1. Common Preliminary Examination
  2. Main Examination
  3. Certificate Verification
  4. Counselling

Stage 1 – Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination is a screening test.

Preliminary marks are not counted for final merit.

Stage 2 – Main Examination

Candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Examination are admitted to the relevant Main Examination.

The Commission proposes to admit candidates to the Main Examination based on the prescribed ratio and reservation rules.

Stage 3 – Certificate Verification

Candidates shortlisted based on Main Examination performance will be called for certificate verification according to the prescribed ratio and reservation rules.

Stage 4 – Counselling

Candidates participate in counselling according to their rank and applicable reservation/category conditions.

Stage 5 – Final Selection

Final selection is based on the marks obtained in the relevant Main Examination Paper II, subject to reservation, eligibility and other applicable conditions.

How is TNPSC Group 2 Final Rank Calculated?

The final ranking is based on the marks obtained in Paper II of the Main Examination.

If two candidates obtain equal marks, the Commission follows the tie-breaking conditions prescribed in the notification.

  1. Complete TNPSC One Time Registration.
  2. Login using the OTR User ID and Password.
  3. Select the Combined Civil Services Examination–II notification.
  4. Enter the required recruitment details.
  5. Select the applicable post/options as permitted.
  6. Upload the required photograph and signature.
  7. Verify all the details entered in the application.
  8. Pay the applicable Preliminary Examination fee.
  9. Submit the application finally.

TNPSC Group 2 Photograph Requirements

The photograph uploaded in the application should satisfy the requirements prescribed by TNPSC.

The photograph should:

  • Be a recent colour passport-size photograph.
  • Be taken on or after the date of notification.
  • Have a white background.
  • Show the candidate from the front.
  • Show both ears and part of the neck.
  • Contain the candidate’s name.
  • Contain the date of photography.
  • Be uploaded in the prescribed dimensions and file size.

TNPSC Group 2 Signature Requirements

Candidates should sign inside the prescribed box using a blue or black ink pen.

The scanned signature must be uploaded in the prescribed dimensions, resolution and file size.

TNPSC Group 2 Exam Centres 2026

For the Preliminary Examination, candidates can select two examination centres as preferences.

Candidates with benchmark disabilities can select one examination centre and will be allotted a venue in that district centre.

The Commission may re-allot candidates if necessary.

Requests for changing the allotted examination centre will not be entertained.

Group II Main Examination Centre

Group II Main Examination Paper II will be conducted at Chennai only.

Group IIA Main Examination Centres

Paper I of the Main Examination and Paper II of Group IIA will be conducted at the centres specified by TNPSC.

TNPSC Group 2 Correction Window 2026

The Application Correction Window will be available from:

Candidates should use the correction facility to correct eligible application details within the prescribed period.

After the correction window closes, modifications will not be permitted except as specifically allowed by TNPSC.

TNPSC Group 2 Tamil Language Requirement

Candidates should possess adequate knowledge of Tamil on the date of notification.

The notification provides several methods through which adequate knowledge of Tamil can be established.

These include:

  • Passing SSLC/equivalent with Tamil as a language.
  • Passing HSC/Degree with Tamil as a language.
  • Studying the prescribed school course in Tamil medium.
  • Passing SSLC/equivalent in Tamil medium.

Government Service Restriction

Candidates belonging to the “Others” category who have completed five years or more of service from their first appointment in a service of the Government of India or a State/Union Territory are not eligible to apply under the conditions specified in the notification, even if they are within the prescribed age limit.
